Two Weeks in Paradise

By Carmela Hernandez

I just wanted to share a wonderful vacation I enjoyed in Guam, USA. "Why Guam?" you may ask. Well, I met a friend about 26 years ago, at my very first job out of high school, who was Chamorro (native from Guam). At the time, Rose and her family lived in Hayward, CA. I would visit them in Hayward up until they moved back to Guam in 1981. We have kept in touch via mail and phone ever since then. Rose would always ask me, “When are you coming to visit?” and I would say to her some day. Well in April 2004 that day came. I had the honor of being accompanied by my oldest brother and my youngest daughter. We had a great time. The weather was hot and humid; the water was warm, and the scenery was very tropical. Geckos roamed around like ants. Everyone was very hospitable, from my friends’ relatives down to the local people. I would definitely love to go back when I have another chance. The picture shown was taken at Taloffo Falls, Guam USA, one of the many beautiful sites in Guam.
