George Shamshayooadeh

George joined the National Hispanic University
in 2001 as English professor, and is currently
the coordinator of the Student Academic
Assistance Center (SAAC).
Prior to his tenure at NHU, George taught in
various colleges in the Bay Area: at Ohlone
College in Fremont and at West Valley College in
Saratoga. While at West Valley, he also served
as skills lab coordinator and worked with
diverse students from the Middle East, East
Asia, South and Central America, and European
countries. He also taught English at Evergreen
Valley College.
Prior to the working in the Silicon Valley,
George worked in Teheran, Iran, as an English
Instructor at I. Free University, Faculty of
Foreign Languages, at the Iran Language
Institute (formerly Iran American Society) and
at the National Institute of English.
His teaching philosophy is to enhance students’
literary and linguistic knowledge, to challenge
and invigorate their critical thinking and
bolster their intellectual repertoire by
encouraging and ultimately turning the students
into curious and open-minded individuals who
weigh and evaluate literary, prose passages for
themselves and not merely be the recipient of a
set of analyses and interpretations.
George was born in Tehran, and speaks Farsi/
Persian and English fluently. He holds
Bachelor’s and Master’s in English language and
literature with additional graduate work in
teaching English as a second language.
George enjoys visiting relatives, reading, and
traveling. He is the proud father of a son, born
in January 2005.
