Ninh Nguyen
After graduating from San Jose State University with a B.A. in Economics and later with an M.A. in Applied Economics, Dr. Nguyen worked for various companies in the Silicon Valley in divisions such as business development, marketing and communications, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), and strategic intelligence. Dr. Nguyen has worked in an employee capacity as well as a consultant for such companies as Sony, Wyse Technologies, MML Investor Services, and Sanmina Corporation.
He has been instrumental in spear-heading, building, and advising successful companies in the Silicon Valley such as ND Commercial, LLC, LJN P.R., Inc., E.V., Inc., K.P.D.C., Inc., Engineering Design Technologies, Inc., and ND Mar-Com. Dr. Nguyen has been involved in multiple high-level, multi-faceted transactions for these firms which include the disposition of company assets totaling in the tens of millions, productization and conceptualization of undeveloped goods and services, and asset accumulation and wealth management.
Married to Jacqueline B. Nguyen, D.D.S, he re-entered graduate school to earn his Business Ph.D. with a specialization in Finance with course concentrations in applied business economics, quantitative research methodology and design, and organization and management under the guidance of Professor Zhenhu Jin, Ph.D. as his doctoral mentor and dissertation chair with the acceptance of his dissertation, “Do Mutual Fund Attributes Affect Mutual Fund Performance?”
He accepted positions as a professor on the business faculty at the National Hispanic University and later joined the economics faculty at San Jose State University and is currently employed. Dr. Nguyen has research interests in such fields as consumer choice models, applied decision sciences, sales techniques and management, economics of education, human capital models, marketing systems, financial economics, operations research/management science, and optimal portfolio strategy. He has been influenced, both professionally and personally, in the most positive of fashions by fellow business leaders, professors, and economists Dave Saurman (1951-2002), Steven Cuellar, Thayer Watkins, Lydia Ortega, Manoj Chacko, Keiko Suzuki, E. Wade Hagan, Peter Zografos, and Roger Folsom though he has learned the most important things from his wife, Jacqueline B. Nguyen.
When Dr. Nguyen is not at the university in academic capacities, chairing on various boards, or starting other business ventures, you can find him on or near a volleyball court practicing and training for league tournaments as well as coaching youth volleyball leagues. His pastimes also include sitting at home with his two dachshunds, enjoying time with his family and cooking.
