Welcome to the National Hispanic University's Teacher Education Department. Our classes are designed to prepare teachers that are effective in California's culturally and linguistically diverse schools. The faculty believes that an effective teacher knows and uses appropriate strategies that meet the developmental and diverse needs of all students.

The Teacher Education faculty prepares Multiple Subject, Mild to Moderate Special Education and Single Subject teachers. Single Subject teachers can earn a preliminary credential in the areas of Art, English, Math, Physical Education, Science, Social Science and Spanish. The department also is approved to provide the CTEL/CLAD certificate to teachers needing English Learner certification.

Important Update:
Current applicants and candidates for the 2042 Clear Credential and for the BCLAD Credential are urged to complete all the requirements outlined by their Advisor before December 2010.
Additional program standards for the Clear Credential program and the BCLAD Credential have been adopted by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. NHU anticipates writing to these standards to continue offering the program in its new form.
December 2010 is the anticipated timeframe in which new program standards will be adopted and required for candidates. Additional coursework will be required in the new Credential Programs.
This website will be updated as further information becomes available.
