At the National Hispanic University, commencement ceremonies are joyful, memorable occasions at which we recognize the achievements of our students and the cultural diversity of our institution.
Save the Date—May 17, 2014
On Saturday, May 17, 2014, we will celebrate this remarkable milestone for the Class of 2014 and their families and friends with a special commencement ceremony.
Kirk Nugent, a celebrated motivational speaker and author who challenges his audiences to be true to themselves, pursue their passions, and live extraordinary lives, will deliver this year's commencement address.
Each year, NHU recognizes the contributions of our new graduates, faculty, and staff through a number of annual awards.
This year's honors include:
- Outstanding Staff Award (S.T.A.R. Award)
- Outstanding Faculty Award
- President's Award for Exemplary Student Achievement
- President's Si Se Puede Award
- La Familia Award
Awards will be presented as part of our commencement weekend at our Commencement Breakfast on Friday, May 16, and during the commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 17.
Graduation Regalia and Orders
Through Jostens, you can order your graduation regalia as well as invitations, announcements, and class rings. The deadline to order all regalia online without incurring a $20 rush fee was April 10, 2014. After April 10, students should call 1-800-854-7464 and order by May 9. No orders will be taken after May 9.
It is the student's responsibility to order his or her graduation items. Keep in mind shipping time allowances. You may access the Jostens' website (www.jostens.com) for more information. Note: Graduation items may appear silver in color on the website, but when ordered, items will be the standard colors for NHU, which are on file with Jostens.
Individual Portraits: Photos will be taken of each graduate walking across the stage and receiving their diploma. Graduates have the option of purchasing these photos after commencement at: www.Estradaphotos.com. These photos will be uploaded to the site by May 24.
Group Photos: A group photo will be taken on Saturday, May 17, at 9:15 a.m. Additional instructions will be provided when you arrive for commencement.
Graduation Breakfast: Friday, May 16, at 10:00 a.m. Save the date!
Graduation Rehearsal: Friday, May 16 immediately following the Graduate Breakfast, at Bustos Plaza. It is very important that you attend the rehearsal.
Commencement Day Schedule:
- 8:45-9:00 a.m. — Registration and continental breakfast
- 9:15 a.m. — Group photo session
- 10:00 a.m. — Processional and commencement ceremony
- 12:00 p.m. — Recessional with music until 1:00 p.m.
*Commencement Day Parking—Please encourage your families and guests to arrive by 8:30 a.m. Parking lots will open at that time and spaces are limited; street parking will also be available.
Graduates must submit a Conferral of Degree form, available at Student Services, in order to process their degree or certificate and order the diploma or certificate.
The Conferral of Degree form may be submitted within or after the final academic term as long as requirements have been met. Students without a Conferral of Degree form on file will not be awarded their degree until the form is submitted. Submit this form to the Office of the Registrar. You will be contacted by the Office of the Registrar once the diplomas are ready.
Once a student completes all course requirements and submits a Conferral of Degree form, undergraduate and graduate students will be charged the $50 graduation fee; students in the Translation and Interpretation certificate program will pay a $25 fee. These fees cover the administrative costs to process your diploma or certificate.
