POSITION: PEER ADVISOR FOR LEARNING SKILLS (PALS)

DEPARTMENT: Pre-College

STATUS: Part-Time (19 hours per week)

REPORTS TO: Pre-College Office Coordinator

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide students with academic assistance assigned area as directed by instructor or project staff.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, instructors, parents and project staff.
  • Assist participants to develop good study techniques and learning activities.
  • Assist project staff in the planning and implementation of educational, recreational, guidance and cultural activities.
  • Ensure the safety and well being of participants at and during program activities.
  • Monitor students’ academic and social progress/development and submit evaluation as designated.
  • Supervise all participants in general, and an assigned group of 8-10 students.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be an enrolled college student in good standing academically.
  • Must have a good academic background in Math, Science, and/or English.
  • Must possess sensitivity to the needs of students who are low income and potential first generation college bound.
  • Must have at least one year of experience working with low income youth in an educational setting.
  • Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish/English).

SALARY: $9 - 12/hour
