Job Title: Upward Bound Summer Instructor
Department: Upward Bound
Status: Part-Time Temporary
Reports To: Upward Bound Director and College Advisor

 

The Upward Bound Program is looking for a qualified summer instructor to join our summer residential program for six weeks. The following courses will be offered to high school students this summer:

Math/Algebra I
English/Composition
US History/World History
Art
Science/Biology

 

Job Requirements

  • A minimum of a BA or BS Degree in the appropriate subjects
  • Teaching experience
  • Currently working on a Teaching Credential or Masters program
  • Experience working with diverse population of students

 

Instructors
Each Instructor's primary duty is to conduct a course that is consistent with stated course goals and objectives and which reflects the unique needs of students in attendance. In addition, each instructor should also make reasonable demands of students regarding daily assignments and final course requirements as appropriate to course content and program.

 

Job duties and responsibilities:

  • Submit course syllabus, course objectives, and integrated lesson plans before classes begin; distribute syllabus and objectives to students.
  • Teachers are responsible for care and maintenance of all instructional materials in their possession.
  • Teachers are responsible for keeping accurate documentation of check-out and return of instructional materials.
  • Attend weekly full staff meetings and strand meetings.
  • Participate to the fullest extent possible in field trips and social and cultural events.
  • With assistance of assigned P.A.L.S., maintain daily student attendance and performance records and submit to program office as required.
  • Coordinate daily lesson plans with the evening group study sessions, as well as the planned field trips.
  • Advise the assigned RGA on activities and follow-up needed for meeting students' academic and personal needs.
  • Conduct pre-test, a post-test, and final exam and report results to program office.
  • Implement all program rules/policies and disciplinary procedures and maintain ongoing record of verbal warnings/consequences and written referrals.
  • Maintain daily communication with College Advisor, RGA’s, Administrative Assistants, and students to ensure efficient program operation.
