Description:
The Upward Bound (UB) Pre-College TRiO program at The National Hispanic University is a federally funded program designed to prepare and assist low income, first generation high school students for college. Our goal is to expose students to many different academic, cultural and educational activities that focus on developing their academic and interpersonal skills and heighten cultural awareness. The Upward Bound Program offers: After-School Tutoring, Academic Advising, College Tours, Academic Saturday Sessions during the school year and a Six Week Academic Summer Residential Program. We are currently looking for qualified summer instructors to join our Summer Residential Program for six (6) weeks. First two weeks will be at The National Hispanic University and the last four will be at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Each instructor’s primary duty is to conduct a course that is consistent with stated course goals and objectives with the NHU’s Faculty Handbook. In addition, each instructor should also make reasonable demands of students regarding daily assignments and final course requirements as appropriate to course content and program. The following college courses will be offered to high school students this summer in partnership with NHU’s Middle College Program.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- M.A. in the appropriate subjects for college level courses or currently working on a Teaching Credential or Masters Program for enrichment courses.
- Teaching Experience
- Experience working with diverse population of students
- Interest, skill, and experience with Curriculum Development
- Excellent written and oral skills
Job duties and responsibilities:
- Submit course syllabus, course objectives, and integrated lesson plans before classes begin; distribute syllabus and objectives to students.
- Teachers are responsible for care and maintenance of all instructional materials in their possession.
- Participate to the fullest extent possible in field trips and social and cultural events.
- Coordinate daily lesson plans with the evening group study sessions, as well as the planned field trips.
- Conduct pre-test, a post-final and final exam and report results to program office.
- Implement all program rules/policies and disciplinary procedures and maintain ongoing record of verbal warnings/consequences and written referrals.
- Provide weekly student academic reports to the academic advisors during staff meetings.
- Meet all the requirements and fulfill all the duties of an adjunct faculty member as published in NHU’s Faculty Handbook.
