National Hispanic University to hold
19th Commencement Exercises
on New Campus in East San Jose
(San Jose, CA)—The National Hispanic
University will be holding its
19th Commencement Exercises on its
newly re-constructed campus in
east San Jose on Saturday, June
5th at 9:30 AM (14271
Story Road). The
construction, which began in
September 2003, has been
completed and its plaza spaces
ready to welcome the crowds on
graduation day. The event
itself will be held in the new
Bustos Family Plaza at NHU.
Graduation is always the
happiest day of the year for the
National Hispanic University as
all on campus rejoice in
celebration of the
accomplishments of its
graduates. Delivering the
commencement address will be
Rosario Marin, former Treasurer
of the United States and General
Albert C. Zapanta, President/CEO
of the United States-Mexico
Chamber of Commerce and Chairman
of the Reserve Forces Policy
Board. Along with
commencement activities, NHU
will be installing its second
President Dr. David P. Lopez who
began his tenure in September
2003.
"Each and every member of the graduating class of ' 04 is well
educated and highly motivated. They represent the very best and
brightest in our community”, stated Dr. Lopez, President of NHU.
There will be a reception immediately following the commencement
exercises that is open to those in attendance.
The $25 million campus project at NHU includes: a 3-story, 65,000
sq/ft/ learning facility with 18 classrooms, 2 science labs, 2
computer labs, a learning center, a library and offices. It
also includes: a plaza/amphitheatre, an entry plaza and an athletic
field that will be completed in July 2004. Partners in this
effort include: the Sobrato Family, Therma, Inc., Applied Materials
Foundation, Koret Foundation, David & Lucile Packard Foundation,
Valley Foundation, Hewlett Packard, Cisco Systems, Morgan Family
Foundation, Arrillaga Family Foundation, Devcon Construction, Gordon
and Betty Moore and many others. Although construction is
complete, the capital campaign to raise the remaining $10 million
continues.
The National Hispanic University is an independent, accredited,
non-profit university authorized to grant degrees since 1981.
The NHU offers degree programs in business, liberal studies,
computer information systems and a credential program for elementary
teachers. In addition, the University established in collaboration
with the East Side Union High School District the Latino College
Preparatory Academy in 2000. It is a charter high school that
currently serves 300 ninth, tenth and eleventh graders who are
