Governor and U.S. Presidential Candidate,
Bill Richardson, to visit The National Hispanic University

(San Jose, CA)— The National Hispanic University will be hosting the Governor of New Mexico and U.S. Presidential candidate, Bill Richardson, on Tuesday, June 12th from 2:00-3:00 PM.  If elected, he would become the first Hispanic-American to hold the Office of President of the United States.  He will deliver a talk to students, staff and faculty at 2:00 PM in the Library of Sobrato Hall at The National Hispanic University (14271 Story Road, San Jose, CA 95127). 

“We are honored to host Governor Richardson on our campus and appreciate his speaking to our campus community.  The National Hispanic University is a crossroads for the sharing and discussion of ideas and we are excited that our students will get a chance to meet such a great role model”, said NHU President Dr. David Lopez.

Governor Bill Richardson has an impressive record of public service having served as a U.S. Congressman for 14 years (New Mexico), a U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations (Appointed by President Bill Clinton), Secretary of Energy and is now in his second term as Governor of New Mexico.    

As Governor of New Mexico he has brought a hands-on approach and focused on results and leading the state in a new, positive direction.  Over 80,000 new jobs have been created and unemployment is the lowest it has been in 30 years. Personal income is rising at near record levels. Teacher pay and standards have risen, and the overall quality of the schools has gone up accordingly. Tax cuts have sparked economic growth, and he has balanced the budget for five years in a row.  Additionally, New Mexico now offers health insurance to every child under five years old and the minimum wage has increased. Tax relief has been passed that focuses on putting people to work and investing in renewable energy development.

Currently, Governor Richardson is a candidate for President of the United States and is campaigning throughout the country.  Most recently, he spoke out on the defeat of legislation to improve the nation’s immigration system.

"The collapse of this important legislation demonstrates a tragic breakdown of lawmakers' ability to build compromise and the President's ability to work with Congress to get things done. It is also clear evidence of the ongoing disconnect between Washington and the American public”, said Governor Richardson in a public statement given on June 7th.
