Los Amigos of NHU, a group of committed local community and business leaders who volunteer their time and resources to help NHU advance its mission, hosted a fundraising event at the NHU Campus on September 24th to raise scholarship funds and announce the launch of an “Adopt-a-Student” Pilot Program.

The “Adopt-a-Student” Program involves a commitment from an individual or business to contribute towards the tuition of an NHU student and serve as a mentor.

Celina Rodriquez, Telemundo News Anchor KSTS-TV Channel 48 and Damian Trujillo NBC11 News Reporter and Comunidad del Valle Host served as Co-Masters of Ceremonies for the evening event attended by business leaders, faculty, staff, and students.

At the event, NHU Trustee Noel Montoya, presented a challenge for local businesses and individuals to Adopt-a-Student. Those who responded to the challenge as full sponsors/ mentors include Super Mercado Mexico, Broker’s Mortgage, Marilo Jackson, Celina Rodriguez, Alianza Metropolitan News, Los Tigres del Norte, Hispanic Assoc. of Realtors and Affiliates, TechBA, Fotografia Medina, and San Jose Men’s Wear.

Additional supporters for the program include Casto Travel, College Board, Entre Mujeres Organization, Financial Title Company, Greater Bay Bank, Lenders for Community Development, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union No. 332, State Farm Insurance, and The Tate Family Trust.

Corporate sponsorship by The Coca-Cola Company has helped insure that all donations generated by this event will go directly to NHU scholarships. The Adopt-a-Student event raised approximately $50,000 for scholarships.
